Hi! My name is Tuyet Nhi Tran. I am studying biochemistry, history, and business foundations at the University of Texas at Austin. College has been full of amazing opportunities and surprises for me. As a first generation college student, I had no idea what college had in store for me. It was very exciting and intriguing. One of the greatest opportunities presented to me was the opportunity to study abroad. The Beijing Maymester program immediately captured my attention. This summer, I will be participating in the Beijing Maymester program where I will be learning about the history of social entrepreneurship in China and the U.S. However, not only will I get the opportunity to learn inside the classroom abroad, but I will also get the chance to interact with students at the Dandelion school – a school with many migrant children. The Dandelion school is a pure representation one of China’s largest social issue. The program itself is the perfect opportunity for me as it combines my interest in history, business entrepreneurship, and helping others. This study abroad program will help me shape my global views and allow me to gain personal experience that will benefit me in the future as I pursue a career in medicine. I am looking forward to immersing myself in a foreign culture, trying new things that I would have never imagined, and to hopefully make even the slightest positive difference during my term abroad!
