WASHINGTON, D.C., August 29, 2019 โ€“ The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) received a gift of $50,000 from The Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation (CTCF) to fund scholarships for American students to study in the United Kingdom. Named the Cyril Taylor Memorial Scholarship and available for programs in the summer of 2020, the 2020 fall semester and the 2020-2021 academic year, the gift will fund multiple scholarships this year and be administered by FEA.

The named scholarship will fund both academic-year scholarships of up to $10,000, full semester scholarships of $5,000, and summer scholarships of up to $3,750 for deserving American undergraduates to study in the United Kingdom on programs that best meet their educational objectives. Students interested in applying for programs in 2020-2021 can submit applications beginning November 11, 2019.

โ€œWe are delighted that, with the help of our friends at FEA, The Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation will advance the legacy of Sir Cyril, continuing his lifelong commitment to building connections across cultures and boundaries one student at time,โ€ said Bill Gertz, trustee of the Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation and Chairman of the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS).

The scholarship is named after the late Sir Cyril Taylor who spent his life bringing the world together through education and policy as a part of numerous organizations. In 1964, Sir Cyril helped found AIFS, a leading educational organization providing cultural exchange and academic opportunities for more than 1.5 million young people. He also worked for Proctor & Gamble, served on the board for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, and served as High Sherriff of Greater London. Born in Yorkshire, England, Sir Cyril was very active in public service and received a number of honors for his work. He was appointed Knight Bachelor in the Queenโ€™s Birthday Honours in 1989 for services to education and was advanced to a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE) in the 2004 New Yearโ€™s Honours list.

โ€œWe are honored to partner with the Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation to help carry out the legacy of Sir Cyril Taylor,โ€ said FEA Chair Martha Johnson. โ€œA great example of deepening impact through shared vision and collaboration, this is the fourth legacy scholarship entrusted to FEA to administer. It is a great privilege for us to partner with organizations such as the Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation who share our commitment to increasing access in study abroad and who entrust FEA to help carry out their mission.โ€
