FEA Alumni Council Co-Chair

Leana grew up in San Diego, CA and studied molecular and cell biology at the University of California, Berkeley. As an undergraduate student, she participated in scientific research on campus, volunteered at Oaklandโ€™s childrenโ€™s hospital, worked as a peer advisor in the undergraduate advising office, and served as a teaching assistant for lower division organic chemistry courses.

Following her last semester at Berkeley, she spent five weeks in Geneva, Switzerland as part of UC Berkeleyโ€™s Haas School of Business summer 2018 study abroad program, in which she explored the interdependency of business and wider societal concerns, particularly healthcare, by examining drivers of business innovation. Through her experience she developed and presented a business case for Purdue Pharma to address company issues of corporate fraud, sustainability, and stakeholder responsibilities. FEAโ€™s financial support enabled her to obtain an introduction to the business component of healthcare, which was essential for her career aspiration of becoming a physician.
