Welcome to the Fund for Education Abroad online community!  The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is committed to increasing the opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships.  The FEA online community, sponsored by our friends at GoAbroad.com, will be an online forum for our scholars to share their experiences and for the readers to have an understanding of what these scholars are accomplishing around the world!

For the 2011-2012 academic year, eight students were awarded FEA Scholarships.  Four of these students will be abroad in the fall and will be using this community to share stories, pictures, advice and lessons learned.

Lindsay Lebel, a junior at Tufts University will be abroad for the entire academic year.  In the fall she’ll spend the semester in Fez, Morocco studying Arabic intensively through the University of Minnesota’s Arabic language immersion program, then will spend her spring semester traveling to Argentina, India, and South Africa with the International Honors Program, focusing on Health and Communities.

Alejandro Romero will be taking a semester off from his studies at Miami Dade College-Kendall Campus to explore Russia for the fall semester through the College Consortium for International Studies.  After this semester, Alex hopes that his new understanding of Russian language and culture will help improve international relations and change some of the misconceptions people have towards other cultures.

Miranda Parvis will be attending the Florida International University program in Tianjin, China to continue her studies with the School for Hospitality and Tourism.  Studying in Tianjin will help Miranda earn a dual-degree, one from FIU and one from Tianjin University of Commerce, which will ultimately open doors for her future careers.

Tiffany Simmons from Georgia Southern University will be spending a semester studying abroad at the Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) in Japan through their exchange program with GSU.  She hopes that this semester will deepen her knowledge of the Japanese language and culture while preparing her for future academic and professional goals.

Our FEA scholars are sure to have the journey of a lifetime where they will be challenged and inspired as they become immersed in another culture. Thanks for following along!
