The Vienna Operahouse was one of the sites that I visited with the Cultural and Orientation Program. It is one of the most famous opera houses in the world and Europe. I learned Opera is a national treasury to the people of Austria and a part of Austria’s history. It is also the house with the largest repertoire. I also learned the house was open exclusively for Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth but eventually gained popularity under some famous directors and became available to the public. Mozart was one of the famous composers to play in this house. One takeaway from this tour was the architecture behind every corner of the building. I was so amazed and impressed by the architect who designed the house. Lastly, I noticed how Opera is a massive part of Austria’s culture because every year, they have the main event that all the state’s officials, including the president, attend.
