Week #10
Before I begin this week’s blog, I just want to express my condolences to the many lives lost in the recent Itaewon tragedy. This unfortunate event is causing many to question the lack of preparation on the government and police departmentโs part for Itaewons first reopening to halloween festivities since covid requirements have been lifted. What makes this so heartbreaking is when you remember how easily this could have been prevented. My heart goes out to those affected both directly and indirectly.
On another note, this week I went to a very peaceful cafe called the โperception cafeโ. As can be seen in the image below, it has a very unique grooved style ceiling, which I believe is itโs charming point of the cafe. But personally, what makes this cafe really special is the atmosphere. It is so calm, with people reading and doing their work quietly, and it is not a place that is popular in destination so there are not many tourists, just locals who are probably regulars. If I could recommend one cafe to someone visiting Korea, I would immediately pick this cafe. I enjoyed a delicious iced salted chocolate latte, which as I have mentioned earlier, iced choco is a drink I have been enjoying recently, and may I just say this is the best version of an Ice choco I have ever had here! If you go, I totally recommend trying it! It had such a warm flavor that balanced so well with the lightly whipped cream, with just a bit of saltiness to bring out the flavors more! I know that if I lived here permanently, I would totally become a regular here! They have these absolutely delicious peanut butter and strawberry jam cookies that taste just like home, and I wish to go back soon to buy some more! This week I also went to an American breakfast style cafe. I ate pancakes, eggs with cheese and orange juice! It reminded me so much of home. I went with my two friends Sydney and Valerie, and we all come from the U.S. so it was a moment of shared nostalgia. I definitely plan on returning soon, if I am ever feeling homesick! I definitely can argue that one of the biggest cures to homesickness is finding foods you are most comfortable with.
