WASHINGTON, D.C., 16 April 2025 โ€“ The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) continues to increase access to international education by awarding more than $228,500 in scholarships and funding to 106 undergraduates planning to study abroad in Summer/Fall 2025 and Academic Year 2025-2026. With this new cohort, a total of 1369 students with financial need have benefited from more than $4.6 million in scholarships granted since FEAโ€™s inception in 2010.

This cycle, which awards funding for programs taking place between May 2025 and January 2026, as well as Academic Year 2025-26 programs, was the fifth cycle in which applicantsโ€™ loans were considered in addition to other factors to determine financial need. Finalists were determined by 146 volunteer reviewers and FEA staff who read and scored more than 3,300 applications over four review phases.

This cycle has been FEAโ€™s largest in terms of applicants in the organizationโ€™s 15-year history. 26 US states are represented in this cohort, and scholars are attending programs in over 35 countries across six continents.

“We are grateful to all of FEAโ€™s supporters, donors, partners and volunteer reviewers who make study abroad scholarships possible,โ€ said FEA Executive Director Angela Schaffer. โ€œWhile we celebrate the accomplishments of the current cohort of scholars, we recognize that scholarship programs crucial to education abroad access are in jeopardy as federal funding freezes have impacted the Gilman, Fulbright, Critical Language Scholarships and the IDEAS program. At this time, the need for philanthropic support for study abroad like that we offer through FEA is perhaps greater than ever before.โ€

โ€œAs someone who benefitted greatly from study abroad, I am especially excited for this cohort of FEA scholars to have a similar transformative experience and work to increase global understanding, give back to their communities, and mentor future generations as the leaders of tomorrow,โ€ said Dr. Amar Rewari, Chair of the FEA Board of Trustees.

FEA awards many different types of scholarships, including named & dedicated Scholarships that are funded by specific donors; and Access Partner Scholarships. FEA Access Partners engage in the mission of the organization through annual support towards co-branded and allocated scholarships, and they participate on the Access Advisory Board, providing critical leadership-level feedback to FEA.
