Blog 1 – First Day in Hong Kong

Published:

I arrived at the University of Hong Kong on January 8th this year, eager to begin my academic journey in such a prestigious institution. One of the first places I visited was the iconic red brick wall, a landmark that every HKU student knows well. This wall, made of vibrant red bricks, is not just a structural feature but a cultural symbol. The red color is deeply significant in Chinese culture, representing good fortune and luck. It’s no surprise that this spot is a favorite for students, especially those about to graduate. Many flock here to take their graduation pictures, capturing their achievements against a backdrop that signifies prosperity and success.

The other two photos I shared were taken in my dormitory. I was fortunate to be assigned to a single room in a newly constructed building. The dormitory offers modern amenities that enhance our living experience. One of the highlights is the shared kitchen, a spacious and well-equipped area where students on the same floor can gather, cook, and socialize. This communal space has become a hub for making new friends and building a sense of community. The facilities are state-of-the-art, and it’s a privilege to reside in such a comfortable and contemporary environment. Overall, my initial experiences at HKU have been overwhelmingly positive.
