Since my internship ended at the end of December, my family and I decided to spend Christmas in London. I am currently with them now and I will share some activity recommendations for families during Christmas time:

  • Christmas day:

The usual activity to do on the 25th is to celebrate at a pub. Multiple locals have told me this, and because public transportation shuts down on Christmas day, I would book a pub close by to your living accommodations. Also, book in advance, way in advance.

  • Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park:

We haven’t gone to this yet, but it has been recommended to us a few times. The park is free to enter, though certain activities will cost you. However, I hear it’s a nice place to stroll and take in the Christmas spirit.

  • Ice skating:

There are multiple rinks that pop up in the city during the holidays. My family and I personally skated at the National History Museum and it was lovely.

  • Pop-up cinemas:

During the holidays, some pop-up cinemas get festive. My mother’s favorite movie is It’s a Wonderful Life, and they were screening this at the Hackney Showroom. To enter the theater, we had to go through a doorway that was turned into the wardrobe fromย Narnia.ย Once inside, there was fake snow and festive decorations everywhere. We got mulled wine and kettle corn and watched the movie in quite a cozy environment.

  • Southbank Centre Winter Market:

Southbank is always a lovely area to walk around, but during Christmas time they have a decently sized market with ciders, spiked hot chocolate, and so on.

  • Street lights:

Regent Street and Carnaby Street are my two favorite streets to see the holiday lights. It really turns London into a real-life fairy tale.
