International Education Leader DIS Joins Fund for Education Abroad to Provide Scholarships for Study in Scandinavia
FEA expands reach with new Access Partners and increase in destination-specific scholarships
Washington, D.C., December 20, 2018—Non-profit DIS, the leading provider of study abroad programs in Scandinavia, has joined forces with The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) as an Access Partner to provide scholarships to high-achieving U.S. undergraduates who are underrepresented in the study abroad population.
FEA’s Access Partner program is a collaborative venture launched in 2017 to bring together study abroad providers and international education leaders to create scholarship opportunities for students with financial need seeking to participate in international education academic programs.
“We are proud to join forces with FEA and the many Access Partners who share our belief in the expansive experiences that international educational offers as well as our longstanding commitment to access and inclusion in study abroad,” said DIS Executive Director Malene Torp.
DIS Director of North American Operations Brad Stepan will join the program’s Access Advisory Board (AAB). Compromising staff representatives of each member organization, the AAB offers guidance and feedback on the Access Partner program. The new Access Partner collaboration between DIS and FEA deepens the organizations’ enduring relationship; DIS Deputy Executive Director Martin Hogan served as a founding member of the FEA Board.
DIS joins established Access Partners AIFS Study Abroad, CAPA The Global Education Network, SIT Study Abroad, The Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA-Butler), Terra Dotta, The Intern Group, and The University of Auckland, plus five members new to the program this fall, School for Field Studies (SFS), CET Academic Programs, University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC), GoAbroad.com, and FIE: Foundation for International Education.
“We are thrilled to welcome DIS as an Access Partner as we work collaboratively with a growing group of leaders in international education to change the face of study abroad,” said Jennifer Calvert, Executive Director for FEA. “We are also excited that Denmark and Sweden now join the growing list of regions for which we have destination-specific offerings.”
Additional new support for study in Denmark includes The A. Rewari Family Scholarship for Study Abroad in Denmark. Underwritten by DIS alumnus and new FEA Board Member Amar Rewari, M.D., it is newly available for the 2019-2020 application cycle, which is open through January 21.
Access Partners have pledged support of up to $5,000 per semester to FEA scholarship applicants who are planning to participate on one of their study abroad programs. Qualified applicants studying on programs hosted by providers in FEA’s Access Partner program may receive additional dedicated scholarship funds.
