Cat Island

So last week I finished my first semester finals so now I get a nice long spring break. To kick it off I decided to take a trip up to Miyagi–a northern prefecture. There are many things that I want to see up here. Yesterday, I took a trip to the famous cat island. It took 2 and a half hours to get there from the Sendai, but it was worth it.

The island has about 80 residents and over 100 cats. The island also has a cat shrine. Right after getting off the ferry I was greeted by a few cats.

Unfortunately the store on the island, where I was planning on buying cat food was closed. I was very lucky and a nice resident on the island gave me food so I could feed the cats. I fed a countless amount of cats!

While it was fun to see it was kind of sad. They are stray cats and there is no vet on the island so many of the cats had sore spots or bad eyes etc. I still recommend the trip though!
