WASHINGTON, D.C., October 8, 2019 โ€“ The National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA) recognized the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) for exceptional leadership and impact with its Scholarship Provider of the Year Award in the Small Scholarship Category. This award recognizes scholarship providers unaffiliated with a specific college or university that award up to $500,000 in scholarships annually and demonstrate exceptional leadership and impact promoting college access and success through scholarships and support services.

โ€œIt is an honor to be recognized as Scholarship Provider of the Year by NSPA, the leading association for scholarship management,โ€ said FEA Board of Trustees Chair Martha Johnson, Assistant Dean, Learning Abroad at the University of Minnesota. โ€œWe are committed to responsibly and sustainably advancing access for students who are least likely to experience the high-impact practice of education abroad, and supporting their international education and career interests after they return.โ€ Johnson accepted the award with FEA Program Manager and 2015 FEA Scholar Lucรญaย Villarruel last week during NSPAโ€™s annual conference.

In addition to national recognition, the award provides a $2,000 donation to FEAโ€™s programming, sponsored by Fastweb.com. FEAโ€™s nomination underscores nearly a decade of consistent growth and expansion of FEA alumni programming. The University of Michigan was recognized with the award in the Institutional Category. Past recipients include the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, theDream.US and the University of Maryland University College.

NSPA is a non-profit association that advances the collective impact of scholarship providers and the scholarships they award. Founding members include the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Fastweb.com, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and Scholarship America to establish best practices, further professional development, and build cooperative relationships among scholarship providers. NSPAโ€™s members give over 825,000 scholarships totaling over $4 billion annually. In 2016, NSPA was awarded the Alliance for Education Excellence Award by Phi Theta Kappa, which recognizes extraordinary leadership in the field of education.
