Washington, D.C., September 30, 2019โ€”The American University in Cairo (AUC), an American-accredited institution and leader in higher education in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, has joined forces with The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) as an Access Partner to provide scholarships to high-achieving U.S. undergraduates who are underrepresented in the study abroad population.

FEAโ€™s Access Partner program is a collaborative venture launched in 2017 to bring together study abroad providers and international education leaders to create scholarship opportunities for students with financial need seeking to participate in international education academic programs.

โ€œFor almost 100 years, students from around the globe have chosen to study at The American University in Cairo,โ€ said AUC President Francis J. Ricciardone. โ€œCurrently, we have more than 60 countries represented on both campuses. Helping students realize their aspirations for higher education is a top priority for AUC.ย As a result, almost half of our student body receivesย scholarships,ย fellowshipsย orย financial aid. We are so grateful that FEA shares our values and will help us advance AUC goals of diversity and inclusion.โ€

AUC Associate Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Associate Professor of Marketing Ahmed H. Tolba, Ph.D., will join the programโ€™s Access Advisory Board (AAB). Comprising staff representatives of each member organization, the AAB offers guidance and feedback on the Access Partner program.

AUC joins established Access Partners AIFS Study Abroad, CAPA The Global Education Network, SIT Study Abroad, The Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA), Terra Dotta, The Intern Group, The University of Auckland, School for Field Studies (SFS), CET Academic Programs, University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC), GoAbroad.com, DIS Abroad, and FIE: Foundation for International Education.

โ€œWe are thrilled to welcome AUC to the Access Partner Program, which continues to expand impact as a collaborative venture of many international education leaders,โ€ said FEA Executive Director Jennifer Calvert. โ€œWe are also excited that Egypt has joined the growing list of destination-specific scholarships FEA offers.โ€

Additional destination-specific funding is available via The A. Rewari Family Scholarship for Study Abroad in Denmark, DIS Access Partner Scholarships, and The South India Term Abroad Nallennam Scholarship, all newly available for the 2019-2020 application cycle, which is open through January 21.

Access Partners have pledged support of up to $5,000 per semester to FEA scholarship applicants who are planning to participate on one of their study abroad programs. Qualified applicants studying on programs hosted by providers in FEAโ€™s Access Partner program may receive additional dedicated scholarship funds.
