Trip #3 – Kyoto

Read all the exciting things our scholars have been up to!

After the midterms at my university, I planned a short trip to Kyoto, one of the biggest cities in Japan. This trip was important because I wanted to see this beautiful city since middle school. It is one of the places that maintain the traditional beauty of Japan. From the buildings to the festivals and food, everything is traditional. Having the opportunity of exploring the city with amazing friends made me realize the beauty of different cultures merging. We all come from different countries, and sharing each other’s stories was fun while enjoying Japan.
We also got to experience wearing a “kimono” (traditional Japanese dress) and visit the imperial palace and castle in Kyoto. I always wanted to wear a traditional kimono because I have seen them in movies and documentaries since middle school. At the time, my first thought was how different it was from my traditional Mexican dress.
