Hola y bienvenidos a mi blog! I am so excited to share my study abroad journey in Alicante, Spain with you! Alicante is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to! I had no idea what to expect when I decided to study abroad here…

But I am thrilled to call this place home.

First and foremost, the city is absolutely gorgeous. My apartment is in the downtown area, by the main square called Plaza de Luceros. My neighborhood consists of clothing boutiques, restaurants, and tapas/bars. The beach, Postiguet, is only a short walk away and it’s the perfect place to study while enjoying sunshine! The sidewalks are clean, people are very fashionable, and the food is delicious!

Fortunately, adapting to the culture here has been fairly easy. The locals are friendly and welcoming to those from other countries. Many restaurants and markets cater to English speakers, making it easy to communicate. It’s been one week and I have already established a routine! During the week, I have class from 11 A.M-3 P.M, Monday through Friday.

I currently study at the University of Alicante! My classes consist of politics in the E.U and history of secession in Spain. After class I like to study at a local cafรฉ and try new foods. In my spare time, I shop for groceries, go to the beach, and look for special events that will further immerse me into the culture.

There is so much to do here, such as sight-seeing, shopping, dancing, and trying different cuisines! One of my best experiences here has been hiking the Santa Barbara Castle! It is one of Spain’s largest medieval fortresses. At the top of the castle I enjoyed a beautiful view of the whole city and beach in Alicante.

I recently signed up for a program through my university called “intercambios”. I am paired up with a local student and we will meet once a week to improve our English and Spanish speaking skills. One of my goals while studying abroad is to teach English and improve my Spanish fluency, so I am delighted to have this opportunity. I am excited to meet my “intercambio” this Friday for the first time. I will share updates on our meetings on my next blog post!

Currently, I am looking for more volunteer/work opportunities with locals that can provide me with valuable international experience and skills.  Unfortunately, during the Summer there aren’t many options available. Above all, I will remain optimistic and hope to continue creating friendships that last a lifetime!
