Ready to embark on sand-tastic adventures with me? My name is Eurnett Christopher, and I am a junior pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Science and a Data Science minor at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. With the support of the Fund for Education Abroad, I am ecstatic to share that I will be studying abroad in South Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) for the Spring 2024 semester (woohoo!!!!!!).ย

Being from the U.S. Virgin Islands, I have always connected closely with the ocean. As a child, I recall seeing large parrotfish populations at Coki Point Beach and colorful coral reefs. Now, I am devastated to see the remnants of my childhood. The impacts of climate change and global warming have strengthened my interest in studying, restoring, and protecting the ocean. While studying abroad, I hope to develop my understanding of the ocean we depend on. Due to their ecological similarities, I believe that my experience in the Turks and Caicos Islands will greatly benefit me in applying my newfound knowledge in restoration efforts in the U.S. Virgin Islands. At the School for Field Studies Marine Resource Studies program, I will take the following courses: Conservation Governance, Principles of Resource Management, Tropical Marine Ecology, and Directed Research. I hope that these courses allow me to become a better environmentalist.

While this post is a little later than anticipated (lol), I do hope that you stay along for the ride! Cheers to a semester of learning, water in my ears, and becoming a steward for the oceans! :)
