My name is Ahlam Gass, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as a rising senior at Augsburg University, majoring in Finance. I am excited to share that I will participate in the CAPA program, studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. This new journey presents countless opportunities for personal and professional growth, and I cannot wait to embark on this adventure.
One of the main reasons I chose to study abroad in Sydney is my deep passion for exploring different cultures. Experiencing new ways of life broadens our horizons and helps us develop a more profound understanding of the world. Another reason is the TV shows, movies, and art I’ve digested growing up, which has left a good impression on me on Australian culture and always made me long to see it for myself.
Dance Academy was one of my favorite shows growing up; it’s about a girl who grew up in a rural countryside, and her dream was to become a ballerina in Sydney, Australia. The show surrounded this girl who navigated living in Sydney and did what she loved, which is part of why I was always interested in going to Australia (and the Sydney Opera house, of course).
As an avid learner, I am particularly eager to begin my classes and internship, as they align directly with my major in Finance. This hands-on experience will strengthen my academic foundation and provide valuable practical skills that will benefit my future career. I am excited to meet new people and experience a different type of season that I cannot experience in Minnesota (as much as I love my state). I am excited to be surrounded by beaches and sunshine while networking with people passionate about the Finance field.
Let me share a bit about my interests and hobbies. Music and nature are two elements that bring me great joy. Coming from a state known for its lakes, I often find solace in discovering new parks and lakes in my neighborhood. The photo above captures one of my regular visits to a beautiful park teeming with wildlife, such as deer, turtles, and geese. I would love to see different scenery and animals that I cannot find anywhere else, as Australia is known for its rich landscapes and exotic creatures.
Above all, I am incredibly excited to witness the personal growth and transformation that awaits me abroad. The lessons I learn, the connections I make, and the culinary delights I experience will undoubtedly shape me into a more well-rounded individual.
