It has been a little over a month since I started my semester abroad and I can’t help but feeling like time is going by too fast. Every time I look at my calendar I count the weeks I have left and I remind myself to make every moment last. I try to do as many things as I can but sometimes I still feel like the days are just flying by.
Lately I have tried to take pictures of things and places I see every day. I think that if I do this, when I look back on my memories abroad I will also have memories from my every day life, not only in front of touristic attractions.
My classes are going very good and each day I feel more used to being here. To be completely honest, I think I adapt pretty well and I have not had any problems in this first month.
I think the roughest thing to get used to has been the food. Since I am Mexican and I live in Texas, I usually do not struggle to find the food I grew up eating, nor the ingredients to make them. However, here in Segovia Mexican food is very, very rare. If I want to buy ingredients or go eat tacos I usually do it when I visit Madrid and even there I have not been able to find some of the most common ingredients for Mexican dishes.
During this month I’ve learned many things. Like I said in one of my earlier posts, I have learned to be patient more than anything. Today finally, after one month I got internet at my apartment. I am excited because this would make it easier for my roommates and I to do our homework and plan a few trips.
So far, this month has been one of the most memorable of my life. Although I believe this experience will be forever in my heart, I don’t want to look back and think of it as the greatest time of my life when I got to travel and see beautiful places. I want to look back and see it as the experience that made me be forever-curious about the world.
