Visting the Cape Coast slave castle was the most powerful and emotional experience since I have been in Ghana. I knew going into the trip that it would be difficult for me as an African American. However, I was not nearly prepared for what I would experience during the tour.
Initially, I was taken back by the sheer beauty of the castle as well as the view overlooking the ocean. As the tour progressed throughout the dungeons the mood changed significantly throughout the group. Hearing what they had to endure and also witnessing the conditions firsthand makes the history ive learned in classes that much powerful.
Everyone should visit this castle regardless of heritage.
