UK Monkey Forest

While reflecting on my time abroad in England, I wanted to share one of my favorite memories. I had the unique experience of visiting the Trentham Monkey Forest which was only two bus rides away from my host institution. Here you are able to walk through an open forest surrounded by 140 free-roaming Barbary macaques which felt like a whole new world to me. Both captivating and heartwarming was observing their interactions, parenting of young, and even playing with one another. It was a reminder of how vital conservation attempts are in preserving species like this one. After the Monkey Forest, I saw several lovely creatures on a nearby farm in the same city; from goats to fluffy rabbits, the event gave me a warm and happy feeling. It was a peaceful contrast to the busy life of studying abroad and a moment of pure happiness that reminded me to slow down and appreciate the simple things.

Receiving the FEA Scholarship made experiences like this possible. It allowed me to explore beyond my university town, immerse myself in new environments, and make memories I will cherish forever. Studying abroad came with challenges, like adjusting to a new culture and academic system, but moments like this reinforced why I took this journeyโ€”to grow, learn, and experience the world in ways I never imagined.

I have provided a link to the Trentham Monkey Forest website in case you are curious and want to learn more as well as the adorable photos I took at these two locations.
