As I mentioned in an earlier post, I hear more Wolof than French on a regular basis. However, French is the language that’s used when messaging or texting. There may be a few Wolof words here and there but it’s mainly French. Just like English has its own slang and phrases, so does French. I’ve texted people here and sometimes it was difficult to understand what they were trying to say because I don’t understand French slang and certain phrases. In my French class, my professor gave us a handy sheet which shows abbreviations certain abbreviations in French and some French slang. I wish I would have had this little sheet of paper earlier because it would’ve helped me decode messages earlier. Nevertheless, it’s still been a wonderful resource and has helped me text more like a native French speaker.
Until next time,
