My first week went smoothly and my host family is great. I am adjusting to life here but it is beautiful and everyone is very nice. I did have some issues with switching classes due to one of my psychology classes being canceled but I ended up replacing it with a Spanish class so that worked out perfectly because I donโt know Spanish that well. My host mom walked me to the bus stop and showed me the route to school for the first few days and then I went on my own. The university wasnโt too far and the route was simple. The currency here is very different from the U.S. so that is a learning process right now. Directions are very different as well, they are given based on the meter system and often based on something significant and known nearby. So, for example, when I asked for directions, I was told to go 200 meters down and I would see a huge white building on the corner. I feel I had a nice first week and I am learning as I go.
