As I left the United States to begin my study abroad experience, I was overwhelmed with emotions. I was scared to leave my friends and family, but so excited for what awaited me. When I landed in Sydney, Australia, a feeling of joy washed over me as I realized I made the right choice. Adjusting to university in Australia was difficult at first. The classes move quickly and they are difficult to keep up with, but I put in extra work to make sure I still received high marks. Sydney was a beautiful city to live in. I made friends with people who were also studying abroad from UC campuses and local Australians from my classes. I spent a lot of time exploring Sydney and everything it had to offer. My favorite part of Sydney has to be the beaches. They are beautiful and unlike any I have seen in California. I spent the majority of my time off from classes at the beach. My favorite experience was when my friends from UC Davis came to visit me for a week and we went whale watching and sand-duning. It was great to reconnect with them and show them the new life I have been living. My favorite place in Australia was the Australia Zoo. As a pre-veterinary student, the Australia Zoo excited me and I enjoyed seeing all of the different animals that we donโt have back home. I learned about the opportunities I might have in the future as a veterinarian to come back to the zoo and participate in internships.
