Hello! This week was full of fun activities! I embarked on an exciting escape room and a treetop walk that tested my endurance. First off, the escape room was a different experience for me. I have never been trapped in a room where the means of escaping depended on my ability to piece together a series of clues, puzzles, and riddles. The clues, puzzles, and riddles were all themed around Alcatraz, the infamous federal penitentiary that housed some of Americaโs most difficult and dangerous felons, located in Californiaโs San Francisco Bay. This was a group activity where we branched off into three separate groups within the larger group. Although we separated we were still all trapped in the same room but in three different cells. We depended on each other to escape the cells because in each cell there were clues to help the members in adjacent cells escape. Once we figured out how to escape from the cell, the challenge was escaping from the actual room! This caused so to work together as a team and we successfully completed it in 70 out of the 75 minutes we were allotted to complete it! It was such a fun experience! It’s so awesome to say that I escaped Alcatraz! Secondly, a few of us went on a treetop walk. The treetop walk, which consisted of a hike followed by a walk on the canopy, was a complete challenge for me as I am not a real active person. The hike was the longest part of adventure it took about a hour while the actual treetop walk lasted a mere two minutes. Unfortunately, we got caught in a thunderstorm and were forced to trek back in the rain. The walk back was quite an adventure as well as we had to walk up and down these series of stairs just to get back to the ranger station followed by 30 minute walk to catch the bus. Overall, both trips were super fun and provided some much needed relaxation from a hectic day in the lab. Until next time!
