Changgyeonggung Palace

A few weeks ago, I visited Changgyeonggung Palace. According to the placards located inside the compound, it was built in 1484 during the reign of King Seongjong. Large portions were destroyed by fires in 1592 and then again in 1830. The name of the palace was briefly changed to “Changgyeongwon” during the Japanese occupation. This change signaled that the compound would no longer be considered a palace but rather a park with a public zoo and conservatory. However, by 1986 authorities restored the compound to its original name and today it is again known as Changgyeonggung Palace.
