This past weekend I had the opportunity to go to Barcelona. I was able to visit many places and explore the city. I saw the Sagrada Familia, Park Gรผell, Barcelona Cathedral, and the Arc de Triomf. I was a little bit sad I could not go to the beach because it’s currently December, but I had a very good time overall. I also have an excuse to return to Barcelona in the warm weather one day.

Sagrada Familia

It is almost unbelievable that the construction of this temple started in 1882. A year later, in 1883 Antoni Gaudรญ took over the project. After his death, Domรจnec Sugraรฑes took over the management of the works. During the Spanish Civil War revolutionaries set fire to the crypt of the temple and destroyed the studio workshop and although disrupted, the construction never fully stopped. The temple is expected to be finished by 2026. It is exciting to know that the construction of such a historic landmark will be completed in my lifetime after being under construction for more than a century.

Park Guell

Parkย  Gรผell started to be built in 1900. Funded by Eusebi Gรผell, the park was designed by Antoni Gaudรญ. The park was completed in 1914. It was bought by the City Council of Barcelona in 1918 after Gรผell’s death.

I personally loved the park’s colors and unique buildings. I had never seen anything like it.

Barcelona Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia is mostly known as the Barcelona Cathedral. It was built from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century. It was named after Eulalia of Barcelona.

Arc de Triomf

Finally, I saw Barcelona’s Arc de Triomf. It was built as the main access gate for the Barcelona World Fair in 1888.

Overall, I really enjoyed Barcelona and I wish my stay had been longer. I am excited to be back one day and finish exploring this amazing city.
