Major / Minor:

Social Work and Spanish

Program Provider:

Augsburg CGEE Social Work

Future Career Goals:

My ultimate goal is to become a clinical social worker who provides trauma-informed care to individuals and families facing hardship. I want to work with communities that often feel overlooked – especially those struggling with poverty, mental health challenges, and unstable relationships. One of my long term goals is to be able to create a policy and new system that says it illegal to separate families at the border/ has a undocumented parent. This causes trauma not only for the child but also for the parents.

Top 3 Goals for your time abroad:

Cultural and Language Immersion:
I want to fully immerse myself in Mexican culture and strengthen my Spanish skills. Building deeper cultural understanding will help me connect more meaningfully with the people I serve as a future social worker, especially within Latinx and immigrant communities.

Learning Community-Based Social Work Practices:
My goal is to learn how local organizations and communities in Mexico address issues such as poverty, mental health, and family support. I hope to observe and participate in programs that use collective care and resilience to create social change.

Personal Growth and Independence:
I want to step outside my comfort zone, learn to adapt to new environments, and grow in confidence. Experiencing life in another country will help me see the world – and myself – through a broader, more compassionate lens, strengthening my ability to guide others with empathy and understanding.
