Future Career Goals:
I have two career options I’m looking into, both of which study abroad would support. I’m an artist who fell in love with anime, manga, and Japanese role-playing games back when doodles in the margins of my homework were the extent of my artistic experience. I started drawing because I found Japanese art so appealing, actually. I credit it for developing within me a drive to create that is so strong to the point that I took a chance on art school as a low-income, first-generation student. Designing characters for Japanese game companies such as Nintendo, ATLUS, or Intelligent Systems has always been a shoot-for-the-stars kind of dream for me. I’m super excited to see where CET’s Character Design and Manga Creation classes will take me in that goal!
I’m also a student leader on my campus and discovered that I love working with people through roles such as TAing and being a Resident Assistant. Other than making a living off my art, I can also see myself being very fulfilled doing work where interacting, helping, and connecting with others is at the core – and it’d be even better if my reach was international! The Japanese government runs a program called JET for foreigners to represent their countries in Japan as cultural ambassadors, and I’m hoping to apply sometime after I graduate.
