Today, I felt that I successfully integrated in the community and acted as a participant as opposed to an outsider. Running in one of Oaxaca’s many races was absolutely exhilarating. To share the experience with hundreds of locals and my friends made it that much more valuable.
Furthermore, I am proud that I was able to run 3.6 miles in 27 minutes. At the commencement of the study abroad program, I told myself that assimilating and becoming a part of the community as opposed to a spectator would prove to be a challenging goal that eludes most tourists. But today, I did just that.
