What I eat all the time

I would like to begin by apologizing for the later than usual post. It is that time of semester again that I am so tired that I feel physically sick. How many hours did I sleep last night? Maybe 3 or 4 hours…

Today I will share with you something that I eat a minimum of twice a week at my favorite restaurant. As a result of my crammed schedule I sometimes miss the cafeteria hours.

For our friends that are not familiar with Korean cuisine, I will do my best to describe. However, the taste descriptions will not do justice to the nature of the food. Nor are the romanization of the names perfect. Please acknowledge these limitations. On the left of the top photo you will see ๋–ก๋ณถ์ด (Ddeokbokki). It is a rice cake that is paired with a red chili sauce. On the right is ํŠ€ ๊น€ (Twigim). That is a variety of seafood and vegetables. In the center is a hot dog with a crunchy outside. Please forgive me for not remembering the name of that particular dish. Underneath, the circular shaped cuts of food is one of my favorites. That one is ์ˆœ๋Œ€ (soondae). It is intestines that are stuffed with cellophane noodles and blood. (This one is pig intestine.) It is complemented nicely when dipped in the ๋–ก๋ณถ์ด sauce. Finally, sharing the plate with the soondae is what they call ๊ตญ (guk). It is an assortment of liver, heart, cartilage, lungs and other parts.

This food is good for me to eat after badminton practice or going to the gym. The carbohydrates and protein give me energy and strength. Forget protein powder, soondae makes muscle!

Brandon Morrissette

*BASAA Scholarship Anyong friends! I am Brandon Morrissette. I study Finance at Plymouth State University. In the past before college, I worked in the hospitality industry. I was born and raised in a small rural town in the far northern part of New Hampshire. I will study two semesters at Korea University in Seoul. My goal from this experience is to be able to read, write, and speak Korean language at a fourth grade level. I want to travel to all places in Asia. This is because at work I met many friendly, interesting people from that continent. I chose Korea in particular as the result of gentle persuasion from my Korean friends. My favorite academic subject is economics. When I am not studying for my classes, I enjoy learning about Buddha and Confucius. I intend on doing many temple visits. In Korea, I look forward to being reunited with a co-worker who is really dear to me and that I have not seen for 5 years. In addition to seeing old friends, I look forward to meeting many new ones. I also look forward to eating delicious food in Korea. It is possible that I love food because I did not have the best food when I was a growing up. After study abroad and graduation, my goal is to financially support my whole family.
