Back Home

I’m not sure how I feel about being back home. I am definitely happy to see my family and friends. I’m happy to eat home cooked meals and have access to more products, but there is a part of me that is unsure of how I feel to be back. I definitely miss Dakar. I miss the warmth, the noise, the cheap transportation and inexpensive foods. I miss my host family and the little interactions that I would have with people.

I’ve found my routine back home. I don’t feel quite out of place but I know that I’ve changed. I just don’t think that I’ve encountered any situations where I can definitely say, “Yep, I’m a new person” or “This is just too weird.” But then again, I’ll be leaving in a month. I’m going back to West Africa but Ghana this time. I’m at home but part of me is also getting ready to go to Ghana. I have to finish visa applications, find new travel adapters, think about my internship and logistics, and other things.

I’m preparing for another adventure that will be completely different from the one that I had in Senegal. Right now, I am in a weird transitioning period. Transitioning from Senegal to America but also getting ready to transition from Senegal/America to Ghana. So at the moment, nothing is quite fixed.

But what I can say for sure is this:

  1. I like being back home.
  2. I miss Dakar.
  3. I’m looking forward to Ghana.

Until next time,
