Milou de Meij

FEA Alumni Council Member

I traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia as an FEA Scholar in Fall 2017. While abroad, I gained a lot of confidence in my Russian language skills and ability to be flexible and navigate cross-cultural differences. In addition to studying at Smolny Institute, Russia’s only liberal arts college, I was also able to volunteer by teaching English at a nearby adult continuing education school. When I returned home, I began work as a peer ambassador at my university where I gave presentations and spoke on panels about my study abroad experience. I am especially passionate about encouraging underrepresented students to study abroad which is why I’m honored to serve on the FEA council. FEA has helped me so much both in financial support of my study abroad education, improving my writing skills through the blogging commitment, and introducing me to a life-long community of international explorers.
