Intern, Summer 2020
Joanely was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and was raised in Brighton,Colorado where she has lived for the past 17 years. She is currently working towards earning her BS in Marketing with a minor in Communications and Visualizations from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Being a first-generation student and part of an underrepresented minority community, Joanely decided to study abroad in Florence, Italy for spring 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, this experience was different, however she remained focused and decided to stay in her host country until the end of her semester term.
Joanely has held a couple internship positions, one of them being at Florence University of the Arts as their video production intern; this is where she gained creative experience at an international level and discovered her love for traveling, exploring and learning new cultures.
She has always been passionate about her education and helping others who have faced struggles being a first-generation student. She’s worked for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) as a peer mentor/tutor, where she got to mentor and tutor incoming freshmen with migrant/farm work backgrounds.
She will always be proud of her roots and those she represents; that’s why she plans to continue her education by attending grad school and remain helping others to achieve what sometimes for minority students seem impossible.
