Jeonju: the home of Korean food

This previous weekend a few friends and I went on a trip to Jeonju. Jeonju is a city about 2 and half hours south of Seoul. This trip was provided by our exchange student program, so we took advantage of it.

When we visited, the city was holding their annual film festival–the Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), and I was able to see two films. The first film I watched was called ๊ฐœ์˜ ์—ญ์‚ฌ or “Baek-ku” in English. (Which is strange because they are not related at all). The film was pretty good, and in the end there was a Q&A session with the director. There was an awkward moment when the interpreter came out and look directly at my friend and I, who are both white, asking us if we wanted interpretation services, and we refused. However, there was a man behind us who wanted the services. Because there was a simultaneous English interpretation going on while the director spoke in Korean I could not focus on one language and I just gave up listening.

After that, we spent time with a friend who lives in Jeonju. My friend Sangyeop is the best friend of one of my closest friends, and after hearing so much about this man, I was able to meet him in person. We had a really nice night of chatting and drinking.

The next day, we watched another film. This one was called ์ฐจ์ „๊ฑฐ์— ๋Œ€ํ•˜์—ฌ or “About a bike”. I was not as thrilled about this film, and I did end up sleeping through parts of it (oops). After this, we walked around the city and saw some sights, as shown in these photos. The photos sum up most of our trip. It was a short but sweet time with the girls from my exchange student program.
