Hi, my name is Clara Tsao. I am is a 3rd year student studying Biochemistry (B.S.) and Sociology (B.A.) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). I have a passion for social entrepreneurship, complementary medicine, and public health. I am the founder and CEO of the 501©(3) non-profit organization Design for a Better Future, which teaches high school and college students about critical issues in the developing world and the field of social entrepreneurship. Additionally, I am a member of the UCLA Mobile Clinic Project, where I help provide weekly medical and legal services to the Los Angeles homeless population. I am a research assistant for Dr. Edwin Cooper at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, who conducts Neurobiology research on complementary and alternative medicine. In the spring of 2013 I will embark on my first trip abroad to a developing nation, studying for a semester at the University of Botswana. I will participate in community and health practicums in rural health clinics, take courses examining HIV/AIDS, and learn firsthand about the relationship between modern and traditional medicine through a multi-day stay in a rural village.
