Director of Communications
Genilson is a firm believer in the value of education abroad. His international journey began when he first studied abroad as an AFS high school student in a small, rural community in western New York. That experience was transformative and changed the course of his life. After returning to his native Brazil, he decided to move the United States to attend college to pursue studies in journalism, photography, and communication.
He holds an A.A. in Communication and Media Arts from Jamestown Community College, a B.A. in Journalism from SUNY Buffalo, and an M.A. in Communication from Johns Hopkins University. While in college, Genilson again took advantage of international opportunities by studying abroad in England, Italy, and Turkey as a trainee with AIESEC.
Prior to joining the Fund for Education Abroad, Genilson worked for Tax Analysts, a legal tax publisher, where he held editorial and communications roles for more than a decade, rising to the executive level as Vice President of Communications. Most recently, he was a senior communications and outreach contractor for SelectUSA in the International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He led a major redesign of selectusa.gov and provided strategic communications support for the 2015 and 2016 SelectUSA Investment Summit, which featured President Barack Obama as a key note speaker, several of his Cabinet members, as well as governors, chiefs of mission, and global business leaders.
