Academic Travel Abroad
Prior to acquiring Academic Travel Abroad in 1973, Dave Parry was Assistant Professor of Political Science at Pacific University; Director of Summer Sessions and Adjunct Professor of Political Science at American University; and Assistant Director of the Washington Center for Metropolitan Studies. He has also served on the staff of a senator and several congressmen.
Dave has been active in educational and cultural travel for almost 40 years and currently serves as the Chairman of The American Tourism Society an organization of travel organizations and professionals. He was active in developing travel to Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union in the 1970’s and to China in the 1980’s. Besides travel, his other passions include hiking in the Alps from France to Slovenia, reading history, as well as a long time interest in the works of Willa Cather. He and his wife Susan restored Cather’s childhood home in Virginia.
He is especially proud of the innovative study abroad programs of CET-Academic Programs which ATA acquired in 1994. Today CET-Academic Programs operates study abroad programs at 14 sites around the world. A key strength is providing critical language study at our multiple campuses in China and our new Japanese program in Osaka, Japan and Arabic in Aleppo, Syria.
